Individual Trauma Therapy & EMDR
You may understand what you’ve been through and still find yourself on edge, shutting down, questioning yourself, or struggling to feel close to others. Perhaps you hold things together at work, then feel overwhelmed or disconnected at home.
I help adults, high-performing professionals, military members, and veterans work through complex trauma, childhood and attachment wounds, and distressing experiences that continue to affect daily life.
As an EMDR Certified therapist, I combine EMDR with attachment-focused and somatic approaches when appropriate. We begin with assessment and preparation, developing a plan that fits your goals, needs, and capacity.
Ongoing therapy, extended sessions, and personalized EMDR intensives are available. You don’t need to choose a format before we talk.
Private-pay virtual therapy in Tennessee, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Washington, DC. In-person extended sessions and intensives are available in Chattanooga, Tennessee, subject to scheduling and space availability.
Ways we can work together
Ongoing Individual Therapy & EMDR
Regular appointments offer consistent support as we explore your concerns, prepare for trauma processing, and work toward changes in daily life. EMDR may be incorporated when appropriate, alongside attachment-focused and somatic approaches.
50-minute individual session: $250.
Extended Individual Sessions
Longer appointments provide additional time for preparation, focused therapeutic work, and integration. Extended sessions may support EMDR processing when appropriate, or give us room to explore concerns that benefit from more time.
We’ll discuss the recommended length, frequency, and total fee before scheduling.
Personalized EMDR Intensives
Intensives offer a concentrated format for focused trauma work. Your plan may include assessment, preparation, EMDR processing when appropriate, and integration, with recommendations for continued support.
An intensive is not the right starting point for everyone. We’ll assess your goals, current circumstances, and capacity before recommending a structure and pace.
You don’t need to choose a format before we talk. We’ll identify an appropriate starting point together.
What brings you here?
You may be functioning well in some parts of life while struggling privately in others. I work with adults seeking support for:
• Childhood and attachment trauma: Earlier experiences continue to affect your self-trust, boundaries, or ability to feel secure in relationships.
• Distressing memories and trauma responses: You feel on alert, avoid reminders, or react as though a painful experience is happening again.
• Military-related experiences and moral injury: Experiences during or after service leave you carrying grief, guilt, anger, or questions about identity and meaning.
• Overwhelm and emotional shutdown: You move between feeling too much and feeling disconnected, numb, or unable to respond the way you want.
• Relationship wounds: Betrayal, rejection, or painful patterns affect your sense of safety, worth
Finding the Right Starting Point
Our work begins with understanding what brings you here, what you hope to change, and what support you need now.
Before beginning EMDR processing, we assess your history, current symptoms, available support, and ability to stay present with difficult experiences. Preparation may include grounding, recognizing signs of overwhelm or shutdown, and developing ways to pause and regain choice.
You remain involved in decisions about your care. We’ll discuss the approach, possible benefits and risks, and alternatives. You can ask questions, request a pause, or revisit the plan.
An intensive may be appropriate for focused work, while ongoing or extended sessions may offer a better pace for your needs. Sometimes stabilization, additional assessment, or coordination with another provider is the appropriate first step.
The format follows your needs. We’ll make recommendations together and reassess as the work unfolds.
Your EMDR Intensive: What to Expect
Assessment & Planning
We clarify your concerns, relevant history, goals, and current support. Together, we identify a focus and determine whether an intensive is appropriate or whether additional preparation is needed first.
Preparation & Grounding
We develop and practice ways to stay present, communicate when something feels too much, and pause when needed. Preparation continues throughout the work rather than ending at a fixed point.
Focused Therapeutic Work
When appropriate, we use EMDR to address selected distressing memories and their associated beliefs, emotions, and body sensations. The pace responds to your needs, with time for breaks and reassessment. Processing is guided by readiness, not a requirement to finish within the appointment.
Closure & Integration
We allow time to bring the appointment to a close, discuss what you notice, and identify practices and support for afterward. Memories do not need to be fully resolved for us to close a session thoughtfully.
A Plan for Continued Support
We review next steps, which may include ongoing therapy, extended sessions, or coordination with your existing therapist with your authorization. An intensive may be one part of a broader course of care.
Before booking, we’ll confirm the appointment structure, preparation requirements, total fee, and which services are included. Any separate appointments or follow-up fees will be explained in advance.
Focused on What Matters to You
Your intensive is shaped around your history, goals, and preparation needs. Areas we may explore include:
Childhood & Attachment Experiences
Earlier experiences may continue to shape how you see yourself, respond to conflict, or experience closeness. We may focus on selected memories and beliefs connected to these patterns, while recognizing that complex trauma often requires ongoing care.
Specific Distressing Experiences
A particular event may feel unresolved or bring up distress when something reminds you of it. We’ll assess the experience, its effects on daily life, and whether focused EMDR work is appropriate.
Military Experiences & Moral Injury
Experiences involving danger, loss, responsibility, or conflicts with deeply held values can leave lasting distress. Our work may address relevant memories and beliefs while making room for grief, meaning, and the broader context of your service.
Relationship Wounds & Self-Trust
Betrayal, rejection, or other painful relationship experiences may affect your confidence, boundaries, or ability to connect. Individual therapy offers space to address your experience and clarify what you need, without requiring another person’s participation.
We’ll choose a manageable focus together. An intensive provides dedicated time for therapeutic work; it does not require resolving your full history in one appointment.
How EMDR Fits Into Our Work
You may know that an experience is over while still noticing strong emotions, physical tension, or beliefs about yourself when something brings it back to mind. EMDR is a structured therapy that addresses distressing memories and their effects in the present. During processing, you briefly attend to aspects of a selected memory while engaging in bilateral stimulation, such as guided eye movements or alternating taps.
We begin with understanding and preparation
We explore your concerns, identify possible areas of focus, and develop ways to manage distress. You don’t have to share every detail of an experience to begin discussing whether EMDR may fit your needs.
We work at a responsive pace
When processing is appropriate, we monitor your responses and adjust the pace together. You can request a pause, and preparation or other therapeutic work may take priority at any appointment.
We connect the work to everyday life
We revisit how you’re responding to reminders, relating to yourself, and navigating relationships. Your goals guide how we evaluate progress and decide what support comes next.
As an EMDR Certified therapist, I integrate EMDR with attachment-focused and somatic approaches when appropriate. EMDR is an option within your care, and we’ll discuss alternatives if another approach better fits your needs.
fREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Do I need to choose between ongoing therapy, extended sessions, and an intensive?
No. We’ll discuss your concerns during a complimentary consultation. Assessment then helps us recommend a format and pace based on your goals, circumstances, and preparation needs.
Can I begin EMDR right away?
We begin with assessment and preparation before deciding whether to move into processing. The time needed varies. An intensive does not bypass preparation or guarantee that processing will begin on a particular day.
Will one intensive resolve my trauma?
An intensive provides focused time, but outcomes and treatment length vary. Complex or longstanding trauma may require continued care. We’ll choose a manageable focus and reassess your needs as we work.
Can I work with you while keeping my current therapist?
Potentially. With your authorization, we can coordinate with your therapist to clarify goals, treatment roles, preparation, and follow-up. We’ll first determine whether this arrangement is appropriate for your care.
Are appointments virtual or in person?
Virtual therapy is available to clients physically located in Tennessee, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Washington, DC. In-person extended sessions and intensives are available in Chattanooga, Tennessee, subject to scheduling and space availability.
What does individual therapy cost?
A 50-minute individual session is $250. Extended-session and intensive fees vary by structure and length. Please review the Individual Therapy & EMDR Guide for current options. We’ll confirm the total fee and included services before booking.
Do you accept insurance?
Break in the Dawn is a private-pay practice and does not bill insurance. Superbills are available upon request for eligible services. Out-of-network reimbursement depends on your plan and is not guaranteed.
What happens after an intensive?
We review your experience, discuss support for integration, and recommend next steps. These may include ongoing therapy, extended sessions, or returning to your existing therapist with coordination when authorized. Any additional appointments and fees are discussed separately.
